Writing a book isn’t for the faint-of-heart. It requires commitment and a steadfast discipline to keep going even when it feels like you’re not making much progress. Not everyone who starts actually makes it to the end. This is your chance to stand out since you can say you did something that not a whole lot of people were able to do.

As you get near the end, you might feel like you’ll never finish writing a book. This is not the time for you to falter but muster up the strength to make a last great push. Do what you need to do to reach the final scene and once you’ve written it, you can declare victory.

While you make the last push to finish writing a book, always keep in mind that victory is soon within your grasp. If you keep going, it won’t be long until you make it to the end. As you gradually get closer, you’ll feel more emboldened and determined to get to the end.

Once you’re done with the final scene, you can claim victory, for you accomplished something that not many people can say they did. Pat yourself on your back for a job well done! This is the fortieth article in the writing a fantasy book series. If you wind up enjoying this article and want to check out more, you can find them on our blog page.

The Last Push to Finish Writing a Book

At this point, you’ve already written the beginning and the middle which means you’re about to enter the last part of the book. You’ve been writing for who knows how long now and you might be wondering if you can ever finish writing a book. You’re tired and don’t feel like you want to do any more work.

Instead of giving up, which is what a lot of aspiring writers do when they reach this point, you need to double down on your commitment to seeing it through to the very end. It’s time for you to look inward and summon all the strength you have deep down to get it done. Yes, you still have a daunting task looming in front of you and the best way to deal with it is to break it down into smaller, more manageable steps.

By this point, you should have a routine when it comes to writing. Stick with what you’re used to since it’ll help keep you on track. If you write early in the morning, keep at it. If you drink coffee as you write, do it. Maybe you write a little less than you would but the point is, you need to keep writing.

Sometimes when making the last push to finish writing a book, a change in environment can give you the boost you need to reach the end. Instead of working in your office, take your laptop, tablet device, or whatever you use for writing outside where you can feel the warm light on your skin or go to your favorite coffee place and do some work there. Such a change can do wonders for your psyche since you’ll feel more determined to finish.

If you’re worn out or suffering from burnout, take as much time as you need for yourself. Writing a book uses up a lot of mental and emotional stamina. You don’t want to finish writing a book if your brain is mush. Give your mind a break so you can get back on the saddle with a steadfast resolve to persevere.

A support system is invaluable to finish writing a book. Your family or roommates can give you all the encouragement you need to keep going. They’re your cheerleaders since they want the best for you and they’ll clamor to be the first to read your book when you’re all done so they can read what you spent so much time working on.

Victory Within Your Grasp as You Finish Writing a Book

As you move into the last several chapters of your book, what you always need to keep in mind is that you’ve made it further than many people ever did. Almost everyone who sets out to write a book works on the beginning. Some give up before they even reach the middle and a smaller group actually manage to complete writing the middle.

You’re part of a tiny group of people who got to this point and you have a choice to make: do you want to give up now or be one of an even smaller number of people to successfully finish writing a book? If you’re dead-set on being a published author, you have no choice but to do the latter.

Did you know that when you enter the final stages of writing, victory is actually within your grasp? You might not feel like it but it’s actually the case. The best way to look at it is every scene and page you complete brings you one step closer to finishing it since you’ve already written the bulk of your novel by now.

This is the time to press on, for you have the momentum. It’s imperative that you have a positive mindset as you enter the home stretch. Having a positive mindset at this point actually makes it easier to write while at the same time, it makes it oddly more fun.

One important thing to note as you finish writing a book is to eliminate all unnecessary distractions. Having distractions around you can put you in a bad cycle that’s difficult to break. Distractions hamper your progress, meaning it takes more time to finish. Slow progress makes it easier for you to not feel like you’re getting much work done which increases the likelihood you’ll stop writing and so on.

You’re almost there, so keep working at it until you’re done!

What to Do After You Finish Writing a Book

You jot down the final words on the last page of your book and lean back in your chair with a triumphant smile. You stare at the computer screen, content that after long months of constant work, you’ve finally written a book even though there were times where you didn’t want to keep going. Congratulations, this is an impressive accomplishment to be proud of!

Now that you’re done, you might be wondering what your next steps ought to be. Sure, you want to publish it but it’s not something you want to get started on right away. And don’t forget all about the editing process!

The next thing to do is to take a break before you start editing your book. Stepping away from your book for an extended period of time, whether it be one or two months or however long you want, is good for you in a number of ways. It gives you a chance to relax and recover your strength, which you’ll definitely need when you get to work on editing it.

The main reason to take a break is that it gives you the time you need to come back with a fresh perspective which you want when you’re editing. You’re more likely to catch grammatical mistakes or spot issues like inconsistent character development with a fresh set of eyes. It’s almost as if you’re reading your book for the first time despite knowing everything that happens.

Besides, getting some R&R is good for your soul. You get to spend time with your loved ones and do your favorite activities that you couldn’t do a whole lot of while you were writing. Take advantage of this opportunity to catch up with your family and friends and see what they’re up to before you return to work.

So rest up now for you’ll need it when you’re back in the saddle!

Tying it all Together

Not everyone who starts writing a book actually finishes it. The reason why so many people don’t stick it out is because they underestimate how much work there is to writing a book, let alone one based on fantasy. But if you manage to finish writing a book, it’s an amazing feat to be proud of!

It’s tempting to quit before you enter the home stretch. However, instead of calling it a day, choose to press on so you can reach the end. Making a great last push to get it done will make you determined to finish writing a book. You have no choice if you’re dead-set on being a published writer.

You might not realize it when you enter the last several chapters of your book, you’re close to victory. The only way to get there is to keep moving forward, one little step at a time. If you keep working at it, you’ll reach your goal before long!

With the final scene written, you might begin to turn your attention onto the next stage of being a published author. But before you do so, it would be prudent to take a break. Taking such a step will work out for you in the long run, for you get to spent time with the people closest to you before returning to work with a fresh set of eyes and a different perspective, two elements required for the editing process.

Will you finish writing a book which is an important step in becoming a published author?
